Gothenburg resident Erik Höök has been into music since he was a nipper. Always buying records and trying to discover new stuff from of all styles of music, not limited to soul music only. That didn’t last long and his passion for soul music grew stronger, pretty much down to the to the fantastic and established Soulastatic Soul Club.
Originating from Saint-Malo (France), Thierry got his bug for collecting Soul and Funk records a few years after his move to London in 2007. With Dj Slim, Strutter and Lady Kamikaze in toe, Hook & Sling was soon put together – an event dedicated to their love of Funk music.
Thierry is also the founder of Color One Tear Black where he is joined in good company by Jim Edwards and Claire Kalvis regularly banding out the very best Sweet, Deep and Group Soul harmonies… We dig!
Punky found his feet in the soul scene mid-late 90-s through Ska, Acidjazz, Hip Hop and Funk music. At that time, Östlund mainly had the rare 60’s, 70’s and crossover vibe before graduating more towards the Sweet Soul sound. Christian is the man behind the incredible Soulastatic Soul Club, run out of Gothenburg, since 1998.
1969 saw Woolies enjoyed a surge in record sales as a young Tony Jackson used his birthday money to purchase 3 Tamla singles and the obligatory pick ‘n’ mix!
Family Circle’s Jens Chreisti started buying soul records in the late 80’s and has been wowing crowds with his wonderful sounds since the late 90’s.
This period also saw Jens frequenting (as a regular punter), the iconic Soul Essence Weekender. Jens fondly describes Soul Essence as being the biggest influence on him, both as a record collector and a DJ… what a compliment for the Soul Essence crew, big up!
