20-odd years ago, Jonny was a hip hop DJ, very much into A Tribe Called Quest & De La Soul. Like many of us, he became fascinated by the breaks & samples so started to collect them…

A foray into Rocksteady Reggae taught him to love a sweet vocal. He put all those elements together and found Soul! Johnny has been running Soul Provision in York for the past 4 years. Previously he ran clubs in Edinburgh including 100% Dynamite (for Soul Jazz Records), Solid Steel (for Ninja Tune) and his own Saturday night Funk Club, Give It Some! Musically he considers Dean Atkins his mentor – According to Jonny ‘he’s put me onto more tunes than I care to remember!’ The Inner Circle Soul Club in Manchester was also a massive influence on Jonny.
